What a cover page does

The cover page: the first sheet that decides whether anyone turns the page

A cover page is the first sheet of a German application folder. It carries your name, the role you are applying for, a photo if you choose to show one, and your contact details. Nothing more. It does not argue, that is the cover letter; it sorts, so that whoever opens your documents knows within two seconds who is applying for what.

It is never mandatory. It makes sense when you apply with a photo and want to keep the resume free of it, when your folder has several attachments, or when the role calls for design. For a lean two-page email application you can leave it out.

Creating it online means you enter nothing twice. Name, photo and contact details come from your profile, the role from the posting, the design from the same template as your resume and cover letter. The cover page therefore never looks stuck on afterwards.

How it is made

Three steps, two minutes

  1. 1

    Pick the role

You name the role and the company, or you take them from a checked posting. Both end up as a line on the page.

  2. 2

    Photo and line

Photo from your profile, plus a positioning line the AI suggests from your resume: one sentence on what you are and what for.

  3. 3

    Design and PDF

The cover page adopts the colour and font of your template. Download it alone or as the first page of the complete folder.

Content

What belongs on the cover page, and what does not

  • Your name, large enough to read while turning pages.
  • The role and the company as they appear in the posting, with the reference number.
  • Contact details: phone, email, city. No postal address unless you need one.
  • A photo, if you want to show one. Then it belongs here and not a second time in the resume.
  • One line of positioning: what you are, what you specialise in.
  • The list of attachments: cover letter, resume, references. What does not belong: prose, quotes and anything the cover letter already says.

Questions

What applicants ask about the cover page

Is a cover page mandatory?

No. There is no rule and no expectation that requires it. If a posting asks for complete documents, that means resume and references.

Does the photo go on the cover page or in the resume?

One of the two, never both. With a cover page the photo sits better there; the resume then gains room for content.

Is the cover page tool free?

Yes. You create the cover page without points. Points are only needed for AI functions such as the suggested positioning line, and there is a free allowance for those.

What does creating it online mean exactly?

You need no Word and no template to download. The cover page is built in the browser from your profile data and is then available as a PDF, alone or as the first page of the folder.
