Cover letter templates: 21 designs that match your resume

Every cover letter design belongs to a resume design. Header, font and color match without you having to line anything up.

The cover letter is the one page you write anew for every role. The template makes sure it still looks like the rest of your documents. You write the text yourself or let the AI draft it.

Choosing

What matters in a cover letter design

In a cover letter the design is secondary and the text is what counts. Still, it should get three things right.

  • Matching your resume

Take the same design as for your resume. Two documents in different fonts look like two different applications.

  • One page

A cover letter has one page. A design with a large header leaves less room for text; for long texts a plain design is the better choice.

  • Readable before pretty

A cover letter is read, not looked at. A decent font size and calm typesetting matter more than color.

The design opens the door. The text has to walk through it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cover letter have to match the resume?

It should. Different fonts and colors look as if the documents came from different applications. That is why every design exists for both documents.

How long can a cover letter be?

One page. If you have more to say, cut rather than shrink.

Can I export the cover letter as a Word file?

No, cover letters come as PDF, on their own or together with resume and cover page. The Word export exists for the resume only.

Do the templates cost anything?

No. Every design, the editor and the PDF export are free. Only the AI features cost points, such as a cover letter draft.

Pick a design and start writing.

Ideally the same one as for your resume.
